  1. In the townland of Drumgallon, Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan was born on the 8th March 1834, a boy named John O'Neill. His father's name was James O'Neill and his mother's Betty -. When John was fourteen he went to America to his other brothers. He joined the Fenians there and got the titles of "General John O'Neill".
    The remains of his boyhood home are to be seen in Drumgallen yet. THe lane past it is called "Bett's Lane".
