  2. There was an old woman there long ago and she had only one son and his name was Jack, and he was in the cradle until he was twenty-one years and she could not support him any longer; so she went to the king and the king hired him for herding cows. There was a giant living near the king and the king told Jack not to let the cows over into the giant's farm because the giant would keep them.
    Jack went away with his cows and he had a sword tied around his waist. It was a sunny day and he sat down and slept.
