  1. There are six forges in the school districtThe names of the smiths are Carthy, Reidy, Murphy, Connor, Walsh and Sweeney. Some of these Smiths' people have been smiths for many generations. These forges are situated in different parts of the town.
The forges are usually covered with felt. The door is not of any special kind. There is only one very large fireplace within each forge.
The bellows consists of a very large iron wheel and a belt attached. The names of the implements are the anvil, the sledge, the rasp, the punch, the vice and a very large trough of water to cool the iron.
There smiths shoe horses and asses; they also make farm implements. Some of the forge work is done in the open air, such as cooling the iron. The belief connected with forgewater is that it would cure diseases but the water shuld be stolen. It is said also that if the sparks from the red iron went towards you that it was a sign that you were going to receive money.
