  1. Story Hidden Treasure
    Long ago the people of old were illiterate. They listened very attentively to every story, they were told, by the noblemen, who were the only people having education, that there were different places in the country, where there lay Hidden Treasures. A few years ago, it became known that a treasure was hidden in a "Fort" quite close to my home in the townland of Ballyumagha. Several attempts were made to open the door which was a large flag and each time the work had to be abandoned , through fear of some evil spirit bursting out. Later the people became braver, and called this evil spirit "a fairy" and that it was he who was in charge of all Hidden Treasures. At last, they secured the services of a clever show-man named Doctor Powell. He brought with him some of the bravest men in the district. They removed the stone and entered by a tunnel 21 feet in length. Within they were surprised to find a
