    Firm as the hills of Erin.

    There is never a murmur, nor thought of flight,
    The ideal blow for blow in the waning light,
    Though theirs an unequal of hopeless fight,
    They fight for the honour of Erin.

    Thus the battle rages till eve's decline,
    But though 20 to 1 these Saxon's swine,
    They never could break through an Irish line,
    Nor haul down the flag of Erin.

    At the dusk of even around them close,
    They died like heroes over powered by foes,
    And from many a gash the red blood flows,
    To moisten the hills if Erin.

    There is not a prisoner all are slain,
    On the falling flag there is never a stain,
    That flag will float on the breeze again,
