  1. Long ago they made candles from rushes and tallow. Others were made of wick dipped in Tallow and were called "Dipps". They showed good light my granddad says.

  2. Flax is and annual plant, bearing pretty blue flowers. A field of flax in blossom has a pretty appearance and is allowed to grow till the seeds are nearly ripe.
    When the flax has lain long enough in the water it is taken out, washed, dried and combed so that the long fibres are separated from the shorter ones.
