    The style of dress has also changed since we were young and free,
    And ladies' costumes now are seen scarce reaching to the knee,
    The head - gear, and the stockings too, seem only meant for show,
    And would be thought a silly freak some Forty years ago.
    For men we have got "Oxford Bags and Plus Two, Three and Four,
    Resembling how our mothers' skirts were made in days of yore;
    But thought the seem quite up to-date, I'd like them all to know
    We had fine boys in corduroys some Forty years ago.
    The real old native dances, too, are long since left behind
    While "Tango" and the "Fox Trot" are all that we can find;
    But when I'm asked to "take the floor" my answer will be "no",
    Unless I get the Irish reel of Forty years ago.
    Let those who talk of poverty just pause a while and stare,
    At all the Raleigh bicycles attends Drumkeerin Fair;
    Our parents dear possessed no fear of rain, hail, wind or snow,
    While driving in the donkey cart some Forty years ago.
    The Free State now has worthy men to guide the Nation's cause,
    And we should be quite satisfied with our home-made laws
    But Parnell, Davitt, Dillon too, although they're lying low
