Local Song (2)
The town of Balbriggan was burned to the ground,
And the bullets like hailstones were whistling around,
And the people left homeless by those evil band,
The scrum of cruel England the dread Black-and -Tans.
The tans in their lorries from camp they did come,
To shoot all before them and those on the run,
Poor Lawless and Gibbons were shot without chance,
And they pierced heir dead bodies with bayonet and lance,
The young and the old will remember that night,
But strengthened in heart will continue the fight,
Till time in it's course, through joy or through ain,
We'll make you, dear Country, a Nation again.Collected by W.F. Kelly from John Reynolds
