    ______________________
is filled with alternate layers of turf about twelve inches high, and layers of broken stones about five inches.
When the kiln is properly lit there will be another layer of stones and turf put in and this will be continued every four hours until the kiln can hold no more.
It takes a kiln about two days to burn, and the kiln has to be left about four days to cool before it can be emptied. It takes about three carts of turf and three tons of stones to make thirty barrels of lime.
