having sold their land to their immediate neighbours.
There are only two persons over seventy years of age in the village, my uncle, Pat Marley, who is 76 and Pat Joyce, who is over 70. Neither of them has any knowledge of Irish.
The village got the name Islandmore because it is surrounded by a stream. The land is of fair good quality The crops grown are potatoes, oats, barley and turnips. Wheat is seldom grown. The fields are well fenced and well sheltered and an average size of about 2 acres. Many of them are irregular in shape.
