- All Soul's Night is kept in all solemnity in this part of the country. Crowds visit the church that night, and make visits for their dead friends. After twelve o'clock not a human being would stir out of the house, as it is believed that the poor Souls are allowed out of Purgatory for that night. After the rosary, which consists of fifteen decades, everyone goes off to bed. The old people leave the door on the latch, a bright fire on the hearth, the house is tidy, and clean, a pipe, and tobacco, and a box of snuff, all ready to welcome any poor soul who should choose to visit the house that night.
