  1. Last night my Uncle told me a lovely story. It was all about a flood that came a long time ago in the Gurtain area about a half-mile from this school. He told me that the inhabitants from the townland had to get boats and every means they could to prevent themselves from being swept away by the flood. After some time floating about in this fashion there came a ship which took them on board.
    When they were ready to sail away the water disappeared all at once and everybody got back to where they left only to find all their belongings swept away. Then they went back to the ship but it was unable to sail for want of water
