  1. Saint Patrick is the patron saint of the district. He had no church in the parish. He visited Holywelll and there is a well there called after him. People visit the well each year. Saint Patrick worked no miracles in the place. St. Brigid visited the district and there is a well called after her. St. Patrick visited the district when he was on his way to Croagh Patrick. When St. Patrick visited Holywell he knelt down on a stone and the tracks of his feet are on the stone. There is an old tree near the well at Holywell and when the people visit the well they go around the tree and well three times praying. There is a mug hanging on the tree and the people teem the water with the mug because the people say it is not right to teem the water with a bucket or can.
