Ar an leathanach seo

  1. We celebrate the feast of Saint John on the 24th of June. It is anxiousley looked forward to by young, and old, on account of the big bon-fires that are lit the preceding night.
    Days before it, long ago, people were very busy gathering sticks, furze-bushes, sods of turf, old timber, and all kinds of fire material. There was great excitement in each locality. Each one wanting to have the biggest fire.
    On this night, the members of each locality gathered together. They went up to a hill, and here, they lit the fire. Everyone had to do something. The old sate down, and told many stories of the adventures of old, at the same, they enjoyed a smoke of the clay pipe: The young entertained themselves by telling stories, singing and reciting pieces. Then they gave refreshments to the old people.
