    Many stories are told in Arva about quarrels between Catholics and Protestants in olden times. I was not able to get any dates or to connect them with periods of history. The parish of Killeshandra is about nine miles in length from north to south. Right across the middle of it is a district called the Manor which is inhabited by Protestants. Very few Catholics live in this part of the parish. It is believed locally that it was planted about Cromwell's time. Probably stories of the quarrels between Catholics and Protestants have come down to us from that time. Thus it is told that there was a certain bush in Arva where Catholics used to be hanged by Protestants, and it said that Protestants damaged the old Catholic Church here.
