  1. The greatest storm, which occurred in this locality for fifty years was the big snow blizzard of February, 1933.
    On the morning of the 25th, it commenced to snow accompanied by a very strong wind, which developed later in the day into a regular blizzard, the worst within the memory of the oldest inhabitant.
    Trains, buses, and lorries were all held up. Bread-vans and travellers doing their rounds were stranded for days in the most out-of-the-way places. Most amusing tales were told of their endeavours to reach their homes, as in some places there were drifts of snow to the height of twenty feet.
    The village of Nobber, which is in this district, was completely isolated. It was witnessed, for the first time in this locality, aeroplanes dropping food to the inhabitants of the village.
    After being away for five or six days, lorries and bread-vans could be seen returning home, having had to be dug out of some huge snow-drift.
