    It was dyed various colours for knitting stockings, jumpers, gloves and many other useful garments.
    Flax was one time extensively grown for linen manufacture, but as it was far more difficult than the woollen manufacture it was soon neglected as a home craft though it still survives in the north of Ireland.
    Thus we see that the people could devise methods for doing many things in olden times when there was no machinery in use.
