    The local forges are Paddy Foley's
    William Byrne's, Stephen Fitzpatricks and Tom Murphy's.
    Foley's forge is supposed to be working since
    1507. Byrnes forge is situated in Coolcullen.
    It is supposed to be there for six generations.
    The work carried out out in this forge is shoeing horses
    and asses. The Byrne's are also good men at curing
    any ailments with horses legs and feet. This forge
    is situated by the road side. There is no chimney
    but a hole in the gable end and roof to let
    the smoke out. There is a horse shoe on the
    door which is supposed to be the first the smith
    made. Their tools consist of a hammer, pincers,
    sledge, bellows and anvil. The bellows that William
    Byrne has was made by Bob Rickaby a local
    tradesman. There is a tradition that when
    Our Lord was been crucified they went to get
    nails made by a smith but he refused and
    a tinker made them and Our Lord said
    that everyone would have to go to the smiths
