    There are about three forges in my parish. There is one in Garryduff and another in Kellymount and another in Paulstown. The smith in Garryduff is supposed to be the best. He does all sorts of work. He makes socks for ploughs and shoes horses and binds wheels. He makes harrow pens and iron gates and a number of other things. The other smith does very little work. He only shoes horses and makes very little farm implements. The smith in Paulstown can make iron gates and bind wheels and shoes horses. Each of these forges is slated. There is a tradition that a smith who washes in the water which has cooled his irons feels himself refreshed and made stronger. Some say there was a forge in Griffin's field in Kellymount and that the smith used to make swords and spears and that it was
