- There was a lot of hedge schools long ago, one of which was named Moyne school. It was in the townland of Moyne. The school was held indoors in a little thatched house. A man named O'Rourke used to teach in it. He was a native of Co. Leitrim. He used to lodge in farmers' houses at different times. The children used to bring a certain amount of money for their instruction. There was one book from which he taught. It dealt with several subjects, and was called "The Universal". He used not to teach much Irish.
