  1. In former times people did not wear boots until they were thirteen or fourteen years of age.
    Long ago, when people had washed their feet they used to leave the water some place, and it used to cure sore feet.
    There are two shoemakers in my parish. There were more shoemakers long ago, and they used to have more tools than the shoemakers now.
    I was told there was a tannery in Granard.
    There was an old woman who never wore boots winter or summer. Her name was Mrs McCabe. She lived in my townland.
    People used to wear nothing but home-made boots long ago. They would have to buy leather, and give it to the shoemaker and he would make boots for them.
