    Now for the fine weather omens. When the swallows fly high and the lark's song is bright and cheery and there are no crickets singing on the hob and no soot falling we shall have plenty of sunshine. When the school of crows in the tree tops is loud and noisy we shall have plenty of fine weather. When the cows and sheep browze on the hills and avoid the glens and the sun goes down into a sea of red and golden glory we shall have beautiful sunshine for a while.
    I always watch the smoke coming out of the chimneys when coming to school. If it is spiral it will be a fine day but if it hangs in a cloud over the house the day will be bad.
