   Once upon a time, a woman and her son lived together. They had only one cow, and they said that they would have to sell her in order to get the rent. She sent her son to the fair, but before he went, he asked her what price would he ask for the cow. His mother told him to ask the highest penny at the fair. He asked her what was the highest penny, but she told him to get it anyway.
   So he went. A man asked him what price did he want for the cow, and he said he wanted the highest penny in the fair. "I will give you ten pounds," said the man. "No," said the boy, "I want the highest penny in the fair."
   Another man was listening to them. He had a stick, and a whang tied to the end of it. He tield a penny to the whang, and held it up, and said that was the highest penny in the fair.
   So the boy took it for the cow, and when the man was going away, he told the boy that if anyone was vexing him, to say, "Whang tie up, and stick beat.
   So he went home well pleased, and when he reached the house, his mother asked him how much did he get for the cow, and he showed her what he got. She began to shout that there
