- There are four forts in this district, Fox's fort, Tullyarren fort, Mulvany's fort, and Lynch's fort. There are three of them within view of one another.
Mulvany's fort is called the, "Black fort". It is almost levelled away now. Before it was levelled away, it was circular in shape, and it was surrounded by two clay fences.
When my mother's great-grandfather was alive, he was levelling out the fort, and one day when he was at it, the horse's leg slipped into a hole in the fort, and was broken. He never continued the work after that, and it remains unfinished yet. The remains of it is still to be seen in the middle of a field.
The people say it was the Danes that built them. The fences were placed there to keep out wild animals. - Bailitheoir
