    The spangled sky, the moon and sun,

    Angels, Godlike, a numerous throng,
    From his unbounded goodness sprung.
    Man's body from the clay he formed,
    Which He with Godlike soul adorned
    Poor man thy vicious will control,
    And strive to save the precious soul.
    What comfort's in this present state,
    If heaven be not thy future seat.
    The God who made thee for himself,
    Despises all worldly pomp and pelf.
    The chief concern through life should be.
    To gain the bliss prepared for thee
    Be then thy duty, then thy joy.
