  1. I
One morning in May, as the larks they sang gay,
And the valleys were smiling all round,
The birds on each tree, sand with sweet melody,
That they charmed the air all with sound.
With a mind free from care, having some time to spare,
And my blood singing in every vein,
With a heart filled with glee, I went out for a spree,
And went to see lovely Drumlane.
    II
Down by an ash grove, where fond lovers roam,
And the lambs skip, on a bright dewy morn,
Near to the green shade, I spied a fair maid,
Sitting under a snowy white thorn.
Her eyes they were blue, and her heart it was true,
And her garments were inclined to green,
When a hero so brave, came to take his leave,
Of the lovely, fair maid of Drumlane.
    III
She said, My dear boy, you are like Hector of Troy,
You wounded my heart, in love's chain,
Would you be so unkind, as to leave me behind,
And forsake your fond love in Drumlane.
O no, my dear Jane, it would cause me great pain,
