    made of clay and wattles and they used to make thatch of rushes and sallies. They used to sleep in the kitchen in a settle bed or a press bed. They had a covering over their heads so that when the clay would fall down it would not blind them. They had no chimney only a hole in the roof of the house so that the smoke could get out. They had a big hole dug down in the floor for the fire place and the fire down in it. All the houses used to have glass windows long ago. The had ferns and old rushes on the floor. Some of the people sleep on the floor. They had a settle bed in the kitchen. Long ago they used to burn
