- In former times bread was made from, wheat, barley and oats grown locally. The people do not remember quern stones been used but they heard that they were used in the district. The following are the different kind's of bread that were used in the district potato cake's, grated cake's, oaten meal bread, barley bread, wheaten bread Some people used to make bread three times in the week and other's used to make bread every day. A cross was cut on the top of the cake when making it. Some people used to call the vessel in which the bread was made, a baker and other's call it an oven. Bread was never baked in front of the fire standing against a support, it was baked(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
