- The houses were thatched long ago and before that it was heather they used to have on the roofs. Some of them had a bed in the kitchen and others had not. Some of them used to have pressbeds in the kitchen. The fire was at the corner and the gable end. Some of the chimneys were made of clay and mortar and bricks. They also had to hang a cloth across the kitchen long ago. There were earthen floors long ago.
