  1. Corrin Hill is near Fermoy, about 9 miles from here. The story of Corrin Hill is told on p. 6. The ghost of Robáird de Barra, father of the unfortunate youth who was drowned was supposed to haunt this hill. One story told of him concerns a family named Crowley who lived in a small house at the foot of the hill. During the Famine they suffered as a result of the potato failure One day the woman of the house was sitting despondently in the kitchen, not knowing where to procure food for the family when a man appeared leaning over the half-door. He was a stranger to the woman and elegantly dressed. He told her hang her pot over the fire to get dinner for the family. She replied she had nothing to put in it. He said: "Hang your pot over the fire and fill it with stones if you can get nothing else and see what will happen" Then then he disappeared. So convincing was his manner, and as it was her only hope the woman did as he told her and when the pot boiled she found it filled with fine potatoes. This was repeated day after day and got this honest family safely over that disastrous period.
