- Long ago about three hundred years in the Parish of Glanmire in a Town Land called Temple uisque about three miles from where I live there was a man mowing the grass off the graves and he was mowing the grass off this particular grave when he saw a huge eel eating the[?] corpse and he cut him through the body with the scythe[?] Then he ran as fast as he could. And he jumped the fence of the graveyard but the eel still followed him. Then he threw the scythe at the eel and hit him [?] the eel moaned but continued to run after the man. The man ran through a garden field and the eel was not able to go so fast over the ridges and the man gained odds and reached home safely. Then he told the men his story and the men went out and they heard the moan and they asked the man if that was the moan and the man said it was. Then they ran in and shut the doors. The man died about three days after. And he was buried in that graveyard And there is a head stone there and the image of the eel and the scythe are shown cut out on it.
