- At the time of the building of the old church in the village (1) directly opposite the Hotel, Mr Foley was about to renovate the roof of the Hotel which, up to then had been partly thatched and part slated He had a ton of slate in his Yard for this purpose.
Some hitch in the procuring of slate for the church occurred and to prevent a stoppage of the work Foley kindly gave his slate to the parish priest and it was delivered across the road.
