- There lived in Dunmanway over a hundred years ago a family named Cox. They were very much opposed to Catholicity. There were priests in Dunmanway then. The Parish Priest used to say Mass on Sundays in the town and the Curate used to go to Togher. One Sunday the Coxes caught the Parish Priest and kept him locked up so that he was unable to celebrate Mass. When he was let out the Curate met him and said why did he allow them to interfere with him, the Parish Priest said he would leave them to God, however he arranged to go to Togher on the following Sunday and let the curate deal with them. The next Sunday as he was entering the Church he was siezed by two Coxes and they were taking him away the priest told them to look west, one of them looked around and he couldn't turn his head back and was riveted to the Spot, the other one fled and the priest went and celebrated Mass. Coxes wife came to the priest begging to him to go and loosen him, she said she would give(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
