    Until late years, matches were made in this district.
    When a farmer wished to have his daughter married, he sent "an account" to the man he considered a good match.
    If the man chosen, wished to accept the offer then the parents of the boy and girl met to discuss the marriage money or the fortune.
    The land "was walked", the cattle were inspected, the fowl, the pigs - all were counted. If everything proved satisfactory then the fortune was talked of. All this was done without consulting the boy or girl.
