- Wheaten bread was used by the people of this district.
Wheat was grown by the farmers. It was cut with a reaping hook, thrashed with flails in a barn and winnowed. It was sent to the mill to be ground.
Children loved to roast the wheat with a little bit of butter. It was crisp and hard and lovely to taste. This was called "Prounsel".
Stampy was always made in September. Raw potatoes were pealed and grated. They were squeezed and salt was shaken on them. They were mixed with flour, wet with cream and baked on a griddle.
Boiled potatoes were bruised and mixed with flour, salt and soda. They were baked on a griddle and eaten while hot.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
