  1. In the olden times during the penal days the people had no schools like the ordinary times. They taught in old barns and old taverns. The people who came across the seas were non-catholics. They had no religion or God. They adored false Gods and they would not allow any catholic child to attend a catholic school. Therefore the catholics taught in old barns. Among those schools there was one well known by all people. Only the ruins remain to be seen now and they are covered by a large growth of bushes. A man known as Mr Fitzmorris taught there. This land is owned by John Mullen of Ballyglass Kilmovee. It is now called the "cloch óg". It is called this name because it is very stony and unsuitable for cultivation.
