    Historical
Cromwell's army took the Cstle of Ferns on September 18th 1649. Some lands were granted to his soldiers in the district but tradition says that the lands looked so uninviting to his soldier that he sold the title deeds to a man named Donovan who is supposed to be the ancestor of the present owner of Ballymore. The lands have been held by the Donovan's of Ballymore House ever since.
