- 162Houses.The houses in the district were all mud walls with thatched roofs.
The clay for the walls was mixed with straw and there were very thick walls. All were one storey high and built with an entry wall shading off the kitchen from the door.
A very wide chimney was built and the fire was on the hearth. A seat was provided at each side of the fire and it was there that the people sat. The smaller houses (some of which are still in existence in a place called the Rookery) had only two apartments while the larger houses had a second room above the kitchen. There was a wooden seat called a settle or a settle-bed in each house in the kitchen and was used as a bed at night.
The floor of all the apartments was clay. A small room above the bedroom was up in the thatch. It was dark and was reached by a(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
