  1. There were shops in olden times, but not many things were sold in them. People used to go to the nearest town to get their little wants.
    Buying and selling were, I suppose, carried on, after mass, as the times were altogether different to now-a-days. Labour was given by poor people who had no money to buy their wants.
    The people reckoned certain days luckier than others. I think the people always looked on Friday as being the luckiest day to transact business.
    There were men who used to come very often out of the towns to gather rags. These men were called rag-men.
    There were fourpenny pieces in former times that are not used any more.
