- My grandmother has a spinning wheel and she uses it yet. She spins wool into thread and makes socks out of it. Long ago she used to spin flax fibres and send the linen threads over to the weaver. He made sheets and shirt material for her which she stitched at home. She has some of the sheets yet.
- I often saw people making cradles, clieves and turf baskets with sally rods. First you cut the rods and leave them to season. Then stick ten down into the ground. Cut off the top part at the required height. Weave the supple top in and out until the foundation is made. Then make the side in the same way for about an inch. Put in an extra upright according as you wish to widen the basket.
