    into the kitchen, and placed on the kitchen floor, in such a way, as to make a comfortable bed.
    Old bed clothing and lighter sacks were then put on and usually a little fire was left on the heart stone so as to keep the poor old man or woman warm.
    Next morning the old traveller, was up first in the house, collected all his bed equipment, left them in the barn, put down the fire, "boiled the Kettle" and had everything in readiness for the breakfast the man or woman of the house came down to the kitchen.
    He then got a warm breakfast and before leaving slice of home - cured bacon, "a print of butter" and a pinch of tea and sugar" to help him on his way to the next "rest-house".
