- The birds that are common found in my district are the crow, blackbird, thrush, linnet, robin, wren, plover, hawk, curlew, owl, lapwing, yellowhammer, jackdaw, sparrow, grey wagtail, bullfinch, and magpie.
The robin commences to nest quite early in Spring, and will rear two or three broods. The nest is often built in a cosy hole in a hedge, or any old pot or pan will serve too. The blackbirds nest is one of the earliest made, and may be found in a hedge or bush with its five or seven brownish green eggs. The robin and wren build in a comfortable hole in the wall, and are capable of rearing three or four young ones each.I, Mary Hayes got this from my father William Hayes, Ballynavin, Borrisokane, Co.
