  1. Fairs are held in my district, Borrisokane, every month. There is a grassy patch at the top of the town, which is called the Fairgreen, because it is there the most of the cattle are kept on a fair day and the sheep are kept at the end of the town, in pens. March and April fairs are counted the best in my district.
    When a bargain is made, the parties concerned shake hands, and if the seller gets a good price he gives back some money to the buyer, which is called luck-money.
    When sheep are bought they are marked on the back with the buyer's initials in red or some other colour. Business is sometimes transacted in the farmers' houses especially when sheep are being bought, so that the buyer will get the best of the bunch, before the fairs. Buyers have to pay toll money
