  1. The local fairs are those of Fermoy and Midleton Co. Cork. Buyers occasionally transact business at the homes of farmers.
There is a tradition of a fair having been held in Castlelyons near the ruins of the Castle.
Fermoy & Midledtn fairs are held in the fair-field.
Toll is paid to the proprietors of the fair field.
Luck-money is given. Called "luck money" or "luck-penny". No method of calculation and is usually part of the bargain.
Parties show their agreement by striking hands.
Animals are marked by clipping hair at the side, flank, poll &c. Each buyer clips his own particular part.
When a horse is sold the seller buys a halter, which is sold by tinkers, and it is used to lead the animal to the station.
