  1. When the South Lodge Bridge was being built a horse was used for conveying material from one end of the bridge to the other. Suddenly part of the bridge collapsed and the horse fell into the river. He would have been drowned only for a man who was working there called Nevin Adair. He caught the horse by the tail and held him up until help came. It took ten men to lift the horse out.
