  1. Long ago when Jim Naughton was
    not very old he was a great creel-
    maker. Tom Dowd of Ardagh was one
    of the greatest thatchers of long ago. Paddy
    Keany, who lives in the same town-
    land. (He) could make carts, wheels-
    barrows or any article made of wood.
    Charlie Lyons of Heapstown used
    to make firkins for butter. There were
    no creameries them and the people
    had to sell their butter in the
    markets. James Willis of Ballyrush
    used to make spinning wheels. Michael
    Lynch who lived in Geevagh used to make
    coffins long ago.
    Peter Barthly of Doonsheen was the
    only man who used to make cloth.
