    The priests and schoolmasters were banned and hunted with bloodhounds. The Catholics were compelled by law to attend Protestant worship and they were forbidden to vote. In those times the schoolmasters had to gather their classed behind the hedges.

  2. In Ireland, some years ago, the priests were not allowed to say Mass in any house. If they did the house would be burned or the owners of it would be put to death. The priests had to say Mass in the open in some lonely place.
    In Ardvarney in a field of Hunter's there is a Mass rock at which a priest used to say Mass in the penal times. While the priest would be saying Mass somebody had to keep watch on the
