- Local marriage customs
Marriages occur in this district at Shrove time. The month of May is said to be unlucky for marriage, and Saturday is also said to be unlucky. It a custom in this district to make pan-cakes on Shrove Tuesday night.
Almost every farmers marriage is made by a match. When people get married you hear the people asking one another "did you hear what fortune she got". Nowadays weddings take place in the cities and the wedding breakfast in an hotel but long(continues on next page)
