- After the famine a disease swept the country. Very few people escaped it. Their bodies used to turn black and blisters used to rise out in their bodies and then fall dead. Murphy's uncles daughter's father used to bring the dead bodies from the work-house on his shoulders out to where they were burying them and he never got it. This disease came from the dead bodies of these that died with the famine.
