The rush candles were made in this way. They got a few strong rushes and took off the green skin. They used to leave a small strip of the green on to keep the white part from going to pieces. Then they tied them on the crook to get dry and firm. Then they melted butter or lard or talla in the "grisit". They dipped the rushes in this grease and when they had soaked up all the grease they rolled them.
